Review: I saw this movie with a kind of deliciously soft curiosity. It excessive and redundant, as expected from the Baz Luhrmann production. Leonardo DiCaprio made his Gatsby (spor old!), Maintaining a sense of familiarity. The script is an adaptation faithful and even helped me understand some of the more obvious theme of the novel. And even though I think you'll hear dubstep during the Jazz Age would be jarring, the soundtrack worked very well.but can not love. And his (almost) Tobey Maguire fault.Gatsby looming so large in the original story that is hard to forget all about Nick. But it could be said, and often is, it's not Nick and Gatsby who is the protagonist of the novel. Fitgeralds story, told from the first person perspective Nicks, is as good as Nicks narrative, Gatsby because Nick is just so great to see him way.Unfortunately, Maguire fell completely flat in the role of a GUI, a narrative. There is always more at stake and both Luhrmanns dreamscape Maguire absorb all seemed lost. So? with him? So did the audience. Without a strong presence of Maguire, Nick revealed to have a role as an interpreter of events becomes just another character (and quite importantly, by the way). Luhrmann tries to keep Nicks create a narrative framework to tell the story? The first talking to your doctor as a patient in the hospital, and then as the author tries to explain their pain through prose. But the scenes were found with (at best) as a heavy-handed expository or (at worst) as Maguires took inspiration from a short audiobook version of The Great Gatsby.I wanted to love this movie. I really do. I have so many wonderful qualities. But without Nick (Tobey course) to help understand the people and events, angry and half in love {} it, and so sorry, I turned away. |
