Review: See Jack Reacher on Monday night at a preview. Here are some of my thoughts. There is no spoilers.First off, Id say I agree with the general critical reception: 4/5 stars. For me it is a solid film that delivers in the upper part of his genre. Jack Reacher is trying something revolutionary, its more the nature of the action thriller, the audience has not seen for a while.This not be mission: impossible or even James Bond. Writer / director Christopher McQuarrie takes its inspiration from the action films of the late 60s/early 70s as Dirty Harry (whose name checked a few reviews already) BULLITT (auto racing), and maybe another Don Siegel film, Charley Varrick. The tension here is not out of the top tricks of big explosions. Like the action movies just referenced, the excitement you a highly defined main character look smart, outfight and clever bad guys.Which lead me in the character of Jack Reacher and the cast of Tom Cruise. In the series of novels by Lee Child this movie is based on, Jack Reacher is an ex-MP detective. After a lifetime spent on military bases in foreign countries, he lived like a tramp in the United States following a life of zero conditions: no home, no job, no car, no possessions, no family . Oh, and he is 65 and weighs 250 lbs.Clearly Tom Cruise is not true that the physical description. What makes Reacher so great characterization Childs book has much less to do with its appearance as it does with his mind. If you read the series if I did, it's a little strange at first. As the movie played, but I've become more relaxed and more in it. It was definitely a film about Lee Child's hero Jack Reacher, physical differences damned.Would I prefer an unknown actor closer description Childs play Reacher on screen? Yes, of course. But I can say that about almost all the characters, and often do. I would generally unknown to everything.Which where Cruises casting handy little. Since casting his kind of guarantees a certain box office, it means filmmakers can more chances. When crafting an action-movie character burns longer and sometimes brutal violence and short on action senseless and impossible nonsense.JACK Reacher was a very satisfying action thriller for Me. I felt it captured what I like about Lee Child's Jack Reacher thrillers, and in particular. Id definitely recommend, and I'm going back into the theater to see. That's for damn sure. |
